Dear Parents and Students,
Happy Friday!!
Reminder – Next week is our Love of Reading week and Early Registration week. Each day we will have a different event; leading up to our Spaghetti Dinner/Registration Night on Thursday, February 18th. Our class already has 5 jars of sauce, but we do need more in order for everyone to get sauce with their pasta.
On Monday, your child will be bringing home their registration packet for next year. They are due by no later than Friday to either me or the office. If students bring these packets back on Tuesday they will receive a very special prize from both the office and me. Please note: Your child has a guaranteed spot for next year, as long as the registration packet is returned in a timely manner. Thank you.
Parents we still need your help: We are going to be learning about the biomes of the earth starting next week and continuing into March. I would like for your child to be able to make their own ecosphere at the end of the unit. In order to do this I will need some supplies.
· I am looking for clear plastic 2 liter bottles. If you could please clean them and remove the label that would be wonderful.
· Grass and fast growing flower seeds

The students will be having a research project do at the end of this unit. We will be using the computer lab on Mondays to do some of our research. I will provide you with more details as the unit progresses. Thank you.
Reading – this is different for a few students, who go to other classrooms for reading. Students who stay with me for reading we will be beginning a new reading series. The students have previously been working on the Success for all Reading Roots series; however because they have made so much progress over the course of the past few months, we have been moved into the next level of the reading system. We are having a hard time trying to keep children safe during dismissal, please follow the new plan so that we do not have any accidents. Thank you.
Parents we still need your help: We are going to be learning about the biomes of the earth starting at the end of February and into March. I would like for your child to be able to make their own ecosphere at the end of the unit. In order to do this I will need some supplies.

Students who stay with me for reading we will continue reading about different types of activites and things that happen with and around snow. Our shared story is titled, The Ice Storm. Dear Parents and Students,

This week has been wonderful. The students have made so much growth in Reading and Math. We will be completing our intervention book and the students have made great progress; so much so that I will be reassessing them next week. The fractions unit was a little difficult for the students; therefore we will be going back and looking at simple multiplication next week. Dear Parents and Students,
I am glad to see that we are back into the swing of things. The past 2 weeks have been wonderful and the students seem to be adjusting back into the routine very nicely. Please remind your child that they are responsible for their homework and not you. We will be implementing a new policy into the classroom next week, where if your child forgets his or her homework they will be sitting in the classroom during recess until it is returned. The goal is to get 100% of homework turned in. This will also include the new Friday folder that they brought home this weekend.
Our first AIMS Web testing session went wonderful on Monday and Tuesday. Your students are making great progress. Keep up the great work!
This coming month we are going to be doing some wonderful things and hopefully having a lot of fun doing them. SFA reading will be more regular now, we only had 3 days of reading this week due to AIMS Web testing, but we will be back on a regular daily schedule starting Monday. In math we are starting to look at simple multiplication and division by 2s. During our Social Studies times we will be looking at and talking about our family tree; please see the attached sheet for directions on what your child will need to be doing at home for this. In Science we are going to be looking at the human body and discussing the major systems that keep our bodies running smoothly. After we finish the 6 week unit we will be discussing healthy living, our teeth and finally safety. Your child will also periodically be bringing home small books, these are theirs to keep.
We are also in desperate need of some supplies.
· My lined paper is quickly running out, I have 1 more pack of wide rule paper. If you could please donate that would be wonderful.
· We are also in need of tissues, as the weather is cold outside and we have runny noses, these are in constant demand. (Thank you to the Parents of Adrianna, Christopher, Daniela, and Jayden for already donating tissues and Adrianna’s parents for donating hand sanitizer.)
· If any parents would like to donate a map of the World and a globe that would be wonderful, as I would like to start discussing geographic locations with the students.
· We are also in need of fine tip white board markers for the students to use during math and intervention lessons, preferably black.
· Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division flashcards.
· Cleaning supplies (Lysol or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes)

Supplies that your child should have for themselves:
· Crayons or colored pencils (please no markers)
· A Manual pencil sharpener to keep at their desk with a cover to catch shavings
· Scissors
· A homework folder
· A backpack

Reminders and Upcoming Events:
· No School on Monday, January 18th for Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
· If you would like for your daughter to participate in Girl Scouts, it is every Monday during lunch, please fill out the information located in the front office.
· Girl Scouts remember your cookie orders – Please don’t forget Ms. Samuels either!
· Ms. Samuels may or may not be on campus on Wednesday, February 3rd – I will keep you all posted.
· If you think your child might need tutoring, please see me, so that I can make a recommendation to the office on your behalf. Please note: tutoring is for students that are not doing well in either Math or Reading. There is limited space, so your child might not be selected based on their test scores.
